(Route 34B), Groton, NY Earth Day Celebration We'll have a potting and sowing table for kids and their adults, where you can sow some seed and take it home, and pot up a few seedlings to take home too. Also, educational workshops will be happening during most of the day, and we're proud to have Greenstar Market join us, providing vittles (see more details about day below). Let's hope for some rain before then, making late April the prime planting time it should be for trees, shrubs, hardy overwintered perennials and cool season veggies. Mushroom Log Demonstration Keith Vanderhye, of Limbwalker Tree Care Renowned arborist, tree climber, and did you know, mushroom cultivator? Keith's workshop will show you how to set up mushroom logs for easy outdoor placement at home. These logs will provide you with nearly care-free mushrooms for the kitchen for years to come. Pre-innoculated logs will be available for sale as well. Sound complicated? It's not! 12:00 - 2:00. Compost Education Compost Program of Tompkins County Cooperative Extension If you have wanted to start composting but just don't feel comfortable, or like most of us, you've been doing it but can't seem to get it right, see a Master Composter's set-up, and ask questions. Bring a banana peel too! Propagation Table for kids (and adults)We'll have seedlings, soil, pots and our staff on hand to answer questions. Take home a few of your own seedlings--pea plants, native trees, grasses, perennials--and nurse them along at home for a while before planting out. This table is intended to keep the kids happy doing something naturally wholesome, and to show them how much fun it is to raise plants.
