Cass Park/ Rt. 89The vision for Garden Chefs in 2010 will be much broader in scope and culinary boundaries. The Ithaca Children’s Garden will collaborate with Cornell Educational Resources for International Studies (CERIS) and will represent each of the six program areas (East Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia) with its own garden plot and recipes unique to those regions. Through planting, tasting and cooking, youth will learn about each culture and the roles the plants play within them. Offered to youth ages 7 to 12, each session will involve hands-on vegetable gardening where youth will learn the basics of soil health, proper planting, sequential planting, watering, integrated pest management, and harvesting skills; a cultural lesson from one of the 6 international regions; and cooking using vegetables and herbs grown by the youth. $4 per child. pre-registration is helpful
